Be kind to yourself as this is often a hectic time with family and perhaps some unresolved issues from the past.  Speak softly, meditate quietly, take a deep breath, whatever you need to do to stay calm.  Remember to proceed with love as some of us may not get a second chance to say I love you or see someone next time, this year.

Enjoy the holidays and love with all your heart.

The Random Acts of Kindness Challenge Update Nov 29th

It has almost been a month since I posted this blog.  Officially, this week marks Random Acts of Kindness week.  As we move closer to the Christmas season many of us are seeing  requests from various charities for their financial support.  Why not take the time to buy some non-perishable food items and drop them off at a local Safeway or buy a child a toy or teddy bear and donate it to a store collecting gifts for children.

If you have any winter coats, blankets, gloves or scarves you no longer use wash them and donate them to a local charity collecting winter clothing items.

I challenge you, the reader to commit a random act of kindness once a week for one person or family until Christmas.  One can get really creative with this but you cannot divulge who you are or take credit for ir.

Some ideas I came up with are:

Shovel someone’s walk before they get home from work.

If you go through a drive thru coffeeshop or fast food place, give the person at the window a $5,00 bill and tell them to use it for the next person.

Leave an envelope of money in a grocery cart.

If you know someone that is really struggling financially leave them a grocery store card in their mailbox or a box of canned food items, some used clothing, whatever you think they need.

Buy some cookies for some aged people in your neighbourhood and leave them on the step, ring the doorbell and run fast as to not get caught.

Drop off a bunch of older VHS movies to a senior center or nursing home.

This can be a fun way to help someone else and boost your level of happiness knowing that you made someone else fell good too.

Buy a few teddy bears, some fancy pencils, some children’s books and donate them to a school in your community where the kids are from low income homes.

Buy a christmas ornament, wrap it and leave it in the library with a card that says for you.

Got any old coats or blankets, take them to a local shelter drop off box and let someone who needs it, use it.

Give someone a plant in the spring.

Get some flowers delivered to a widower, include an uplfting quote on the card.

Anonymously donate money to the library for two yearly library cards for people who are low- income.

Acts of Kindness

Living in the city one does not tend to expect much from one’s neighbours but the events of this past weekend proved otherwise.  As the snow began to fall on Thursday evening up to Sunday in the wee hours I was surprised at the amount of people in my neighbourhood that pulled together as a team to remove the snow.  I am not just talking about the snow on our walkways or on the front street, but the back alleys and even the roadways where many of us park.  It began with one person shovelling their neighbours walk and by Saturday we had several people that produced snowblowers and shovels clearing driveways, walkways, & streets.  It almost became competitive with teams forming to see who can clear the most snow first.    Now that is community spirit and concern for the people that live here.  I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.

A big thank you to all the wonderful people that restored my faith in humanity.  Remember it only takes one person to make a change and watch what effect it has on the many…

Grateful for Being Able to Give From My Pocket & from My Heart

Being Thanksgiving I wanted to reflect upon the many blessings that we have in our lives.  To be of good health, to have loving, genuine, people in my life, to have enough food & water, a home, to afford to have animals, my dear angel Molly who loves me unconditionally, enough clothing, to afford to go on a holiday.  To people in third world countries I would be seen as extremely wealthy and YET there are so many people that want more than this!  When is enough, enough?   People wait in line for hours to get the latest cellphone.  I have no idea who you are trying to impress; I am not remotely interested in that.

 

 

Give of your heart; give a little if you can to those in need not just at Thanksgiving or Christmas.  In everyday life give back a little hope, a little sunshine.   One does not always have to give money, give a pair of gloves or an old jacket to a local shelter or to a street person.  Take a few cans of food to the Food Bank that are in your cupboard.  Do one even better than that; give someone in need something anonymously.   Maybe give a gift card to a local grocery store or drop off a Christmas tree to a family in need.

 

 

WHO INSPIRES YOU TO BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE

As a young writer at the age of nine I was instantly inspired by music to write.  As, I grew older I found that music was my muse in many ways.  If my mood was high I would listen to rock music and when it was mellow I would listen to Stevie Nicks.  I think anyone that enjoyed the music of Fleetwood Mac found Ms. Nicks to be enchanting, mystical and unique.  A tiny little lady with such a dynamic stage presence that all eyes were on her.  She has not had an easy life, there have been drug problems, weight issues, etc, and yet she remains positive about her life and continues to do what she loves and that is to sing.  What I admire about Stevie is she ventured out on her own in a predominantly male orientated industry and became a successful solo artist in her own right.  But what I admire more than that is that she has and always has remained a “REAL person.  She inspires me to be a little different, to see things outside the box.  Her music creates an ambience in which I can find peace and sereniy in an often insane world.  Her obstacles inspire many to keep going, no matter what.

 

My partner inspires me to be REAL everyday.  He always supports my creative endeavours and my dreams.  I admire Marty because he is a genuine person and sees beyond himself.

 

 

 

 

 

My dog Molly inspires me to be a better person, being that she is sensitive I have to always remember that she gives me all her love and attention and she deserves that from me. She has taught me to be more accepting of life and to remain calm in many situations.

Lessons Learned

ImageWhen I am passionate about something, such as my business and my writing I have incredible amounts of energy. Yet, I fail to find the same level of energy when I look at my pile of laundry. We are only here for a short time and what really matters at this stage of my life is often the question? I have had to lower the bar on my expectations of myself. I have had to re-evaluate my life and make peace with this condition. I wish I could report this was an easy task but it has not been. The harsh reality that I am not invincible has come as a crushing blow, but are any of us?  Invincible, that is? I am not Superwoman, nor is anyone I know of, although a few come pretty close, these are the lessons I learned over the summer.

   Life is not a competition although it may appear to be, it is not if you choose to see it as such. The sooner I let this ideology go, the better I felt. Type A meet type B. All I have is today and beyond that
is something I will address the next day. Living at a more relaxed pace has become paramount to accomplishing anything. I did not get everything done in one day before, I won’t now either. I walk, pray, meditate, write, listen to music, all to maintain an inner peace and calm. I sit and listen to my inner voice. If it feels good I proceed forward and if not, I walk away.
  Let people be responsible for their own lives. This includes loved ones, friends, etc. By constantly doing for others they are not learning how to do for themselves which robs them of skills and lessons they need to learn to be more independent. Independence and achievement bring self confidence, it is not for me to take that away.
Remain a humanitarian as I sense that is my path in life.
  I am not alone in my life. My thinking went something like this: “ I will do it myself, “ I can’t wait for them!”. In retrospect, I never let anyone do anything for me, and as such I did do it all. Now, I ask can you help me with this or that? To suddenly ask for help came as an incredible shock to many people. I started reaching out because I could no longer do some things by myself.
Now this took incredible courage on my behalf but it was necessary. The best thing I did was talk to people about this condition & almost immediately I felt empowered.
      Look at doing something different for a career. What I was doing for work in the helping professions was working with people that were deaf, the mentally ill, the physically challenged, the drug or alcohol addicted, the learning disabled, etc. I was at the far end of the spectrum when it came to helping people. I am now concentrating my energies in the area of prevention of mental illnesses, drug or alcohol abuse,etc.by pursuing an education and a career in the herbalist/wholistic therapy profession.
    Live in abundance. Surround yourself with people that are passionate about life. People that are living their dreams. Take the higher road. Live in love and in light, there is enough darkness. Live with pride and honour.

    Stop the madness!!! After three months of specialists and appointments I had, had enough. I went on holidays and took a much needed break from what had become an on going saga of diagnosis’s ( all related to the Fibromyalgia) and unfilled prescriptions. In my experience I found all of this to be extremely negative and dreaded leaving the house, no this was not living. I knew that the power of positive thinking and naturopathy would be far more advantageous to me than wondering which of the many medications I was prescribed was giving me which side effect or was that part of my Fibromyalgia. I am by no means suggesting people do not listen to your doctor or the specialists, I made the choice that was right for me and me alone. As I had a degree in psychology I knew that the power of one’s mind and allowing the patient to be an active participant in their own treatment has been statistically proven to heal people faster than any medication will.
Above all, I learned to love me as I am. That was the best gift of all.
